Sold PUT Options on Essex Property Trust

Essex Property Trust is a real estate investment trust, commonly referred to as a REIT. This site’s Value Investment Fund regularly sells PUT options as the company’s market price fluctuation is predictable. Essex Property Trust’s market value rarely goes below $240 per share. This site’s Value Investment Fund facilitator’s price point for PUTs on Essex is $240 per share with a five or six-month carry period (time frame). On January 16th of 2026, the Value Investment Fund had a position purchased in August of 2025 at $7 per share on 500 shares. This position cleared on the 16th, the expiration date. Altogether, the Fund earned $3,000.

Note that it did drop below $240/Share in late 2022 but recovered to $250 in mid 2024, a two-and-a-half-year hold if forced to honor the PUT option. The Value Investment Fund has exercised PUT options on Essex Property Trust five times before this January 30th transaction. In total, the Fund has earned $5,164 from the sale of PUT Options on this one security. The Fund had to honor two PUT option contracts sold in May/June of 2022 and purchase the shares in October of 2022.
