Real Estate Investment Trusts, aka REITs, are an income tax-free carve-out in accordance with IRS Code Section 856. They are a high-dividend entity and customarily have good yields when purchased at good prices. The members within this pool are apartment complex based entities, and appreciation of the fixed assets is normal. Good yields and appreciation make them relatively low-risk investments.
